Account & Data Deletion

App: boxlore • Developer: aswin.cx / box.create (Aswin Anand) • Last updated: September 2026

You have complete autonomy over your boxlore account and personal data. You can permanently delete your entire account, or selectively delete specific data categories (like listening history or subscriptions) while keeping your account active.

1. How to Request Full Account Deletion

Deleting your account permanently erases your user credentials and cascades across all associated cloud storage, immediately wiping all subscriptions, listening history, and playback queue.

Method 1: In-App Self-Serve (Instant)

If you have the boxlore app installed, you can delete your account immediately:

  1. Open boxlore on your Android device.
  2. Tap the Settings icon (in the top bar or navigation drawer).
  3. Select Account.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
  5. Confirm the prompt by tapping Delete Permanently.

Outcome: Your authentication identity is purged from Firebase Auth, and our PostgreSQL sync database automatically cascades and deletes all associated rows across all devices.

Method 2: Email Deletion Request (If App Is Uninstalled)

If you have uninstalled the app or lost access to your device, you can request full account deletion via email:

  1. Send an email from your registered account address to: privacy@aswin.cx
  2. Use the subject line: boxlore Account Deletion Request
  3. State your registered email address and confirm that you wish to permanently delete your account and all associated cloud data.

Send Account Deletion Email

Processing Timeline: Email account deletion requests are verified and permanently wiped within 48 hours. You will receive an email confirmation upon completion.

2. How to Request Data Deletion (Without Deleting Account)

You do not need to delete your boxlore account to delete your data. You can keep your account active and selectively erase specific data categories at any time.

Method 1: In-App Granular Data Controls (Instant)

You can manage and delete individual datasets directly within the boxlore app:

  • Listening History & Playback Progress: Go to Library → History → tap the menu icon (⋮) → select Clear History. This immediately removes all played episode progress and completion records locally and syncs the purge to the cloud.
  • Playback Queue: Open the Now Playing player → tap Queue → tap Clear Queue. This empties your current queue across all active devices.
  • Podcast Subscriptions: In Library, open any show → tap Unsubscribe (or use folder management to batch remove shows).
  • Local Audio Downloads & Cache: Go to Settings → Downloads → tap Clear All Downloads to free up device storage.
  • Diagnostics & Telemetry (PostHog): Telemetry uses a random, pseudonymous device installation identifier completely unlinked from your account credentials. Because this data is not associated with your email or user profile, it cannot be deleted via an email request. To reset your identifier or opt out of analytics, use the in-app controls under Settings → Privacy.
Method 2: Selective Cloud Data Deletion via Email Request

Choose which specific cloud data categories you would like permanently deleted from our servers while keeping your account login active:

Generate Data Deletion Request Email

Note on Diagnostic Logs & Telemetry: Product analytics (PostHog) uses random, pseudonymous installation IDs completely unlinked from your account or email. Because telemetry cannot be identified by email, it cannot be deleted via an email request; to reset your ID or opt out, please use the in-app toggle under Settings → Privacy.

Manual Request Instructions:
You can also email privacy@aswin.cx directly with:
  • Subject: boxlore Partial Data Deletion Request
  • Your Email: The email address linked to your boxlore account
  • Requested Datasets: State which data types to delete (e.g. "Delete listening history only, keep subscriptions and account")

Processing Timeline: Data deletion requests are verified and permanently purged within 48 hours with zero residual backup retention.

4. Additional Retention Details & Safeguards

Zero Residual Cloud Retention: When account or data deletion is executed, records are purged permanently from our active PostgreSQL database. We do not keep secondary shadow databases, cold archive stores, or historical replicas of your user data.

No Re-syncing of Deleted Data: Once cloud data is cleared, other devices linked to your account will automatically pull the updated state, preventing old history or deleted subscriptions from reviving.
